Steve
Machida
Steve was born to Edward and Ayako Machida on June 28, 1953 in
Los Angeles, California. He was raised as a Catholic and went
through the parochial school system until his graduation in 1971.
Steve subsequently attended colleges at Mount San Antonio, UCLA
and Humboldt State University where he graduated in 1975. He was
accepted into a master’s graduate program at the University
of Alaska, Fairbanks where he graduated with a degree in Wildlife
Management in 1979. Steve worked for one year in Soldotna, Alaska
with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a caribou researcher
and in 1980 took a wildlife biologist position with the Alaska
Department of Fish and Game in Anchorage. Since that time, he
and the family have been stationed at a number of locations around
Alaska including Saint Mary’s on the Yukon River, Nome and
Anchorage. He currently works for the Department in Anchorage
as a regional supervisor over the offices and staff in the northern
and western part of Alaska.
Steve accepted
the Lord when he was 18 years old during his first year of college.
It was during that first year he met Nancy Guzman, who would become
his wife on May 8, 1976. Steve and Nancy have 2 children; Christy
who was born in Fairbanks on August 4, 1982, and Travis who was
born in Nome on Christmas Eve, 1987. The churches we have attended
and served at since our marriage include University Baptist at
Fairbanks, Birchwood Baptist at Chugiak, Kenai Christian at Soldotna,
Nome Community Baptist and Nome Evangelical Covenant Church.
