Steve Machida

Steve was born to Edward and Ayako Machida on June 28, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. He was raised as a Catholic and went through the parochial school system until his graduation in 1971. Steve subsequently attended colleges at Mount San Antonio, UCLA and Humboldt State University where he graduated in 1975. He was accepted into a master’s graduate program at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks where he graduated with a degree in Wildlife Management in 1979. Steve worked for one year in Soldotna, Alaska with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a caribou researcher and in 1980 took a wildlife biologist position with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in Anchorage. Since that time, he and the family have been stationed at a number of locations around Alaska including Saint Mary’s on the Yukon River, Nome and Anchorage. He currently works for the Department in Anchorage as a regional supervisor over the offices and staff in the northern and western part of Alaska.

Steve accepted the Lord when he was 18 years old during his first year of college. It was during that first year he met Nancy Guzman, who would become his wife on May 8, 1976. Steve and Nancy have 2 children; Christy who was born in Fairbanks on August 4, 1982, and Travis who was born in Nome on Christmas Eve, 1987. The churches we have attended and served at since our marriage include University Baptist at Fairbanks, Birchwood Baptist at Chugiak, Kenai Christian at Soldotna, Nome Community Baptist and Nome Evangelical Covenant Church.
