Ron
Whitt - Executive Pastor
I was born
January 16, 1949 and grew up in the small coal mining community
of West Frankfort nestled in the rolling hills of Southern Illinois.
My mother and father owned and operated a family business for
most of my childhood. My family attended a traditional mainline
denominational church regularly.
I met Vicky Hill in my 7th grade English class and we began dating
during our senior year in high school. We both graduated from
Frankfort Community High School in 1967. Two weeks after graduation,
I accepted the Lord as my Savior and was later baptized at the
Second Baptist Church of West Frankfort. Vicky and I became engaged
to be married on the Ides of March the next year and we tempted
fate when we were married on Friday the 13th of September, 1968.
I served four
years in the U.S. Air Force, graduated from Southern Illinois
University in 1976 and attended Southwestern Baptist Theological
Seminary in Fort Worth, TX from 1976-1978.
I have served
as the Senior Pastor of congregations in Illinois, central Texas
and the Texas Panhandle. We served as foreign missionaries in
Costa Rica and Mexico from 1990 through 1999 with the International
Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
My wife and
I are the proud parents of Julie, Aaron, Rebecca and Jonathan.
We have six wonderful grandchildren, two grand-cats and a grand-dog
named Hoosier.
