Karlberg - Youth Pastor
I was born
in Peoria Illinois and lived there until I was seven. Our family
moved to Minnetonka, Minnesota in 1970 where my Dad was a pastor
of Cross of Glory Baptist Church. I graduated from Minnetonka
High School and attended Bethel College, now Bethel University,
where I graduated with a major in Physical Education and Health
and a minor in Bible. Lana and I met at Bethel where she had come
from Anchorage to attend.
Shortly after
our graduation, I moved up to Anchorage where Lana and I were
married in 1986. After two years looking for a teaching job in
Anchorage, I started teaching in St. Mary’s Alaska in February
of 1988. Lou and Leif were both born while we were living in the
bush. I taught and coached there until we moved back to Anchorage
and I began teaching at Grace Christian School in the fall of
1991. During these years I coached several sports and was a commercial
fisherman in the summer months. April 1, 1994 I was hired as the
Youth Pastor at Anchorage Grace. I still coached the Boy’s
Basketball team at G.C.S. for three more years. One month after
becoming youth pastor Hannah our only daughter was born. Hans
was born in November of 1995 and Tobin was born in July of 1999.
In June of 2000 I enrolled as a full time distance student at
Bethel Seminary. I gave up commercial fishing after that first
summer.
I finished
my MDIV in June of 2005. Lana and I have always treasured the
call that God gave us to come on staff at Anchorage Grace Church.
It has been an eventful and rewarding experience for our family.
