I was born
in Santa Monica, California in June of 1953. Both my parents and
my guardian died between my 7th and 11th grades so I grew up highly
independent. I used to say I’d be content to live in an
isolated trapper’s cabin somewhere in Alaska, but God had
His hand on my life. It was my senior year at Oregon State University
through Campus Crusade that I came to know Christ. It was a dramatic
change for me and I knew the moment I met Him that He was calling
me to a life of full-time service.
In 1976 I graduated with a B.S. degree from Oregon State University
in physical education. I attended one year at Prairie Bible Institute
and in December, 1980, graduated with a Masters of Divinity from
Talbot Theological Seminary.
After I met God, He blessed me with a wonderful family. Keran
McCarty and I married in 1982 in Everett, Washington. We have
three great kids who have attended Grace Christian School since
kindergarten. Rachel graduated in 2006 and is now attending Trinity
Western University. Bethany is a junior and John is in 8th grade.
I have served as youth pastor and associate pastor at various
churches, as youth director of the Northwest Conservative Baptist
Association, as senior pastor of two churches for a total of 13
years, and as an interim pastor. Currently I teach 7th grade Bible
classes at Grace Christian School and direct the visitation ministry
for AGC.
